Day 6

This fountain outside the National Gallery of Art was by far my favorite of our adventure. The roar of the water was so soothing. We sat for a long time listening and looking.This fountain is inside the National Museum of Art's Sculpture Garden. The building seen here is the National Archives.

Next stop....the Air and Space Museum. I remember not being thrilled about this when I was last in DC as a third grader, and I wasn't too thrilled as an adult either; just not my thing.

I must admit, though, seeing the Mars Rover was very cool!

This is precisely why sane people don't take 15-month olds to Washington DC or most museums. See what he's most interested in? :)

Phil joined up with us late in the afternoon and posed for this picture in front of the Madison statue, located in the building he lived in during our stay.

We visited the main building of the Library of Congress, which is BEAUTIFUL!

To fully admire its beauty, though, you have to look up.

Everything is done in tile mosaics. It's pretty astounding!

We went out to dinner at Capitol City Brewing Company, which we highly recommend. Wes finally fell asleep after a beer and a half, but we had plenty waiting for him.

Just kidding. Wesley didn't have any beer, but we did! We thank Wes for sleeping soundly through dinner and allowing us our first "night out" in a long time.With Wes well rested and not ready for sleep anytime soon, we headed off to the Natural History Museum, which stays open late in the summer.

"Look, Dad, a koala!" (Wes really called it a cat, but how many koalas has he seen?)

"Look out Wes, there's a tiger behind you! Run!"

This photo is just for Phil, Greg and Mary Lou because there's a picture of Phil's dad and Greg in front of this very tiger pretending to run away. It's pretty funny!

One of my favorite parts of the museum was this special exhibit of ocean pictures, which also had an ocean video playing that Wes loved and asked to see about ten times. It was a great way to end a lovely day!
